Apong

Apong is like a special homemade beer made by the Mishing people. They make it by fermenting rice with a special yeast, which gives it a sweet and tangy taste. It’s a drink they enjoy during parties and festivals.


Pura Tenga

This is a yummy fish curry made by the Mishing tribe. They catch fresh fish from rivers and cook it with tomatoes, green chilies, and spices to make a tasty sauce. The special part is they add something sour, like lemon or a special fruit called elephant apple, to give it a unique tangy flavor.

Khar

Khar is a dish made using a special ingredient called Khar, which comes from burnt banana peels. They mix it with raw papaya, lentils, and veggies to make a thick soup-like dish. It has a special taste because of the khar and is really popular in Mishing culture.


Pitha

Pitha are like special cakes made of rice flour. They can be sweet or savory. Sweet ones have things like coconut or jaggery inside, while savory ones can have lentils or veggies. They are cooked in different ways like steaming or frying and are eaten during festivals or as snacks.

Til Pitha

Til pitha are special rice cakes made with sesame seeds and jaggery. They make a dough with rice flour, stuff it with a sweet mixture of sesame seeds and jaggery, and then cook it. It’s a sweet treat enjoyed during festivals.

Pura Maas

Pura Maas is a dish made with smoked or dried fish. The fish is cooked with onions, garlic, and spices to make a flavorful curry. It’s a popular dish among the Mishing people and is often enjoyed with rice.



Poka

Poka is a traditional Mishing snack made with roasted rice grains. The rice grains are roasted until they puff up, and then they are seasoned with salt or spices. Poka is crunchy and delicious, perfect for munching on during the day.

Bhut Jolokia Chutney

Bhut Jolokia Chutney is a spicy condiment made with Bhut Jolokia peppers, also known as ghost peppers, which are one of the hottest peppers in the world. The peppers are ground into a paste and mixed with ingredients like garlic, ginger, mustard oil, and salt to make a fiery chutney. It’s not for the faint of heart but adds a kick to any meal.

Dhekia Xaak

Dhekia Xaak is a dish made with fiddlehead ferns, which are young, tender shoots of ferns. The ferns are cooked with garlic, mustard oil, and spices to make a tasty and nutritious side dish. It’s a seasonal delicacy enjoyed by the Mishing community.

Pitika

Pitika refers to a variety of mashed dishes made with vegetables like potatoes, eggplants, or tomatoes. The vegetables are boiled, mashed, and then seasoned with mustard oil, onions, green chilies, and sometimes roasted or dried fish. Pitika is a simple yet flavorful dish that is often served as a sided ish with rice.
